Hermanus Fly Fishing Club offers fly fishing for rainbow trout in the Hemel & Aarde Valley near Hermanus.
Access to stocked dams is through a booking process and available to members only. Our stocking programs provide year round fishing for trout. Fishing is particularly good in the cooler months.
ABOUT USJust over 35 years ago the inaugural meeting, attended by 28 enthusiastic members, of the Hermanus Fly Fishing Club was held in the Hermanus Library. The meeting was chaired by Mr Thomas and his committee. A certain Mr H Wood and Mr Thomas had been invited by the Town Council to advise on the possibility of introducing trout to the De Bos Dam two years previously. The Jonkershoek Nature Conservation was asked to stock the dam with 5000 rainbow fingerlings in 1974 and a further 2000 and 1000 brown in 1976. In order to assess their progress they set out nets in April the following year and netted 36 trout of which 2 were brown and the rest rainbow. They averaged 13 inches with an average weight of 450gm. They were all found to be in good condition and on the 8th May a resolution by a show of hands was adopted to form the Hermanus Flyfishing Club.
Today the HFFC has around 246 members and we stock private dams in the Valley and surrounds for our members.
